In CPRS, if you click on the cover sheet in the vitals area, something will pop up, but you can't use it until you create a template. This is done using a GUI called the Vitals Manager. This is done as follows:

Make a new directory called Common File under Program Files, i.e.,

C:\Program Files\Vista\Common Files\

on a Windows machine. This is a Delphi GUI so until there is a way to run it on Wine or some other solution, this will have to be done on a Windows machine but it can connect to VistA on any type of server that is running VistA. Depending upon what else you have running on the Windows machine, this directory may already exist.

Get the VITL5_3.ZIP and VITL5_P18.EXE from

ftp://ftp.va.gov/vista/Software/VISTA_FOIA_RELEASES_BEFORE_2008/Gen%20Med%20Rec%20-%20Vitals%20-%20GMRV/

Unzip VITL5_3.ZIP and move all of the GMRV_VitalsViewer* files (3 of them) into the common files directory (C:\Program Files\Vista\Common Files). DO NOT RUN the exe file that is in the VITL5_3.ZIP file. (Don't worry if you goofed up and did it. You will be bailed out of trouble by installing the next EXE file.) The other files will end up where they belong thanks to the installer when you run the EXE file.

Then run VITL5_P18.EXE program afterward. When you run them, choose the manager and you will get both the manager and users versions.

Then in your Vitals Manager shortcut, right click and choose Properties. At the end of the target line, put a space and then add S= followed by the server IP address, then a space and P= followed by the CPRS port and then a space then CCOW=disable. Then click apply at the bottom of the window just like you do with CPRS shortcuts.

If you are not sure how to do set up that shortcut from the description above, go to

http://downloads.opensourcevista.net/VADemo9-26-06

and download the installation instructions. Setup of the CPRS Shortcut is show at the end of the instructions.

Then follow the instructions found in the Vitals Users Manual on page 1-5 which can be found here

http://www.va.gov/vdl/documents/Clinical/Vitals_Measurements/vitl5_um.pdf

There are also very good instructions under Help in the Vistal Manager GUI.

There are instructions to add Vitals to the tools menu for easy access and on page 2-6 of the same manual.

I would encourage you to enable the user option for editing the GUI under the Parameters in the Vistal Manager GUI as it has much more flexibility for recording vitals in different locations with different methods without cluttering the initial template. If you make a template for the System, all of the users can use that template.

For the option for users to edit a template to be available, you will need to set the GMV ALLOW USER TEMPLATES Parameter with D ^XPAREDIT

This shows how to add the ability to call up the Vitals Users GUI as a stand alone from the tools menu in CPRS.

Set two parameters as follows (The dll parameters were already set on this system and several tool menu items were already set as well on the system this capture was taken from, like a link to the calculator, etc.):

EHR>D ^XPAREDIT
