Series and Grade + Salary
Salary in federal government jobs is classified into (GS) levels, Executive Service (ES) levels, and (WG) levels. Temporary and non-technical jobs tend to be in the WG series. Technical jobs tend to be in GS series. Higher level Management jobs (as well as Political Appointee jobs) tend to be in ES series.
Each series typically has 10 Steps or gradations in Salary. In addition to the base pay, there is Locality pay which depends upon the location of the job.
