- Operating System
- A basic program that runs on the computer, controls the peripherals, allocates computing time to each user, and communicates with terminals.

- Operating System
- The innermost layer of software that communicates with the hardware. It controls the overall operation of the computer such as assigning places in memory, processing input and output. One of its primary functions is interpreting M computer programs into language the system can understand.
